Poll: Most want Senate Dems to allow Gorsuch vote
A majority of Americans say Senate Democrats should allow a confirmation vote for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, according to a new poll.
Fifty-four percent of respondents in the NBC News/Survey Monkey poll released Thursday say Judge Neil Gorsuch should get an up-or-down vote, while 37 percent say Senate Democrats should block it.
{mosads}NBC News/Survey Monkey conducted its latest poll of 7,832 adults via online interviews from March 24 to 28. It has a margin of error of 1.7 percentage points.
Republicans control 52 Senate seats and need eight Democrats or independents to join them to reach the 60-vote threshold for ending a filibuster.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters Wednesday that it is unlikely Gorsuch will muster enough support.
Thirty-two members of Schumer’s conference have so far ruled out voting for Gorsuch, according to The Hill’s latest Whip List.
Senate Democratic leaders are giving centrist colleagues space on Gorsuch despite strong pressure from the liberal base to block his nomination.
