Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has canceled an annual Easter egg hunt at the governor’s mansion due to security risks for himself and the public, according to multiple reports.
The holiday event was scrapped “due to a threat toward top government officials” as a national manhunt continues for a Janesville, Wis., man, The Wisconsin State Journal said Thursday.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause due to the short notice,” a Thursday email from Walker’s wife, Tonette, said. “We are sad to miss what is one of our favorite events at the executive residence.”
{mosads}NBC 26 said federal, state and local law enforcement officials are searching for Joseph Jakubowski, who allegedly stole 18 firearms from a gun store.
Jakubowski, 32, has been missing since April 4, the Journal said, the day police say he took the weapons and mailed a 161-page letter to the White House.
The manifesto reportedly threatens President Trump and other government officials, provoking national concern over the fugitive’s whereabouts.
The Journal said Walker’s Easter event was originally scheduled for Saturday at his Maple Bluff, Wis., home.
The FBI on Tuesday doubled its award for information leading to Jakubowski’s arrest to $20,000.
The Journal added that a criminal complaint filed in Rock County Circuit Court Tuesday charges Jakubowski with burglary, felony theft and possession of burglary tools.
Jakubowski allegedly broke into Armageddon Supply in Janesville and stole 18 guns before lighting his vehicle on fire.
