Masked gunmen opened fire on a group of Coptic Christians driving to a monastery in southern Egypt on Friday, killing 26 and wounding 25, Reuters reported.
The group was traveling in two buses and a small truck in Minya province when the gunmen stopped them on the road, the report said.
{mosads}Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has called an emergency meeting following the attack, according to Reuters.
The group was traveling to pray at the monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor, according to witnesses.
A fairly large minority of Christians call Minya province home. Coptic Christians make up roughly 10 percent of the Egyptian population. The religious minority has fallen victim to a string of attacks of late.
