Major golf tournament opens at Trump National Golf Club in Va.

The Senior PGA Championship teed off Thursday at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., marking the first major golf tournament held at one of President Trump’s courses since he took office.

First sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. attended the event, which is exclusively for semi-retired golfers ages 50 or older. Eric Trump said the president could make an appearance during the four-day tournament.

{mosads}“All these players are his friends,” he said, according to the New York Times, adding that the president is a “golf fanatic.”

The Trump family helicopter was stationed at the golf course for the start of the tournament.

President Trump has not distanced himself from his family-owned golf clubs, visiting them 25 times since taking office, according to the New York Times.

Trump has also taken to conducting presidential work at his golf courses, playing golf with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a state visit in Florida in February.

The president came under scrutiny during that trip after he and staff strategized a response to a North Korean missile test at a dinner at the club. The White House said no classified information was publicly discussed.
