Ex-Obama spokesman: Trump ‘intentionally sowing fear and chaos’
Former White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday that President Trump is “intentionally sowing fear” in the wake of the London attack that killed at least seven people.
“I think that you and I and so many different Americans are used to a situation which our government assures us,” former President Barack Obama’s longtime aide said on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes.”
Republicans and Democrats alike have demonstrated confidence and resolve in the wake of tragedies, Earnest said, but Trump has a different approach.
{mosads}”He’s intentionally sowing fear and chaos and this lurking sense that the information, or that the situation is out of control,” he said.
“And that may benefit him politically. But it’s cynical and it’s dangerous.”
After the London attack Saturday, Trump reignited the debate over his travel order, emphasizing that it is necessary to keep the country safe.
Trump also went after London Mayor Sadiq Khan for his comments in the aftermath of the London attack.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’ ” Trump tweeted Sunday morning.
Trump appeared to be taking out of context Khan’s comments earlier that day in which he said there was no reason to worry about the increased police presence in London.
