Father: Comey ‘wants to cool it for a while’
James Comey is planning to “cool it” for a while following his highly anticipated appearance last week before the Senate Intelligence Committee, the former FBI director’s father said.
“He’s holding up well — very well,” J. Brien Comey Sr. told The Record, a publication in New Jersey. “He’s a happy camper. He wants to cool it for a while.”
Comey’s father also said the former FBI director “enjoyed” testifying last week before the panel.
“He likes to bring people up to date on what he’s done,” he said.
{mosads}His father also brushed off the controversy surrounding James Comey’s comments that he leaked memos of his conversations with President Trump.
“He just laughs when I talk about leaking,” he said. “He turned over one of his own documents to a friend. That’s not leaking.”
During his testimony last week, Comey said he believed he had been directed to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn and accused Trump and his administration of lies.
Trump late last week disputed Comey’s recollection. On Friday, Trump said he is “100 percent” willing to give his own version under oath.
On Sunday, Trump tweeted that he believes the Comey leaks will be “far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible.”
“Totally illegal?” Trump tweeted. “Very cowardly.”
