Conservative author D’Souza says he briefed Bannon, Gorka on new book

Conservative author Dinesh D’Souza said Friday in a since-deleted tweet that he paid a visit to the White House to brief President Trump’s chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, and national security aide Sebastian Gorka on his latest book tying the Democratic Party to Nazism.

“I stopped by the White House to brief Steve Bannon and @SebGorka on how Trump can flip the accusation of fascism on the Democratic left,” D’Souza tweeted, posting a photo of Bannon and himself posing with his book, titled “Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left.”

The tweet was deleted minutes after it was posted, though a number of reporters captured screenshots of the image.

{mosads}According to D’Souza’s website, his new book aims to rebut Democrats’ efforts to compare Trump’s populist political movement to the rise of fascism in Germany in the 1930s.

“But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth,” a description of the book reads. “Yes, there is a fascist threat in America—but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party.”

A whiteboard apparently belonging to Bannon can be seen in the background of the photo shared Friday. The board, used to list administrative goals and tick off accomplishments, shows the word “taxes” written in large letters and punctuated by exclamation marks.

Social media users speculated that the image could be a potential signal that the White House could soon begin its push for tax reform.

A similar image of a Bannon whiteboard was shared by a guest to social media in May.
