Chelsea Clinton: ‘There’s no compromise with bigotry’
Chelsea Clinton on Tuesday said when it comes to bigotry there’s “no compromise.”
“There’s no compromise with bigotry. The 14th Amendment repealed the abomination of the Constitution’s ‘3/5ths compromise.'” Clinton tweeted, referencing the Founding Fathers’ agreement to count the population of slaves as three-fifths in total when calculating a states’ number of representatives.
Clinton also tweeted a quote by Jewish writer, activist and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, reading: “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

Clinton’s comments come after President Trump said in a press conference earlier in the day that “both sides” bear the blame for violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday.
Trump faced a barrage of questions from reporters about why he did not immediately condemn white supremacists by name after a woman was killed and more than a dozen were injured at the rally.{mosads}
The president told journalists that he wanted to “know the facts” before expanding on his initial statements made Saturday.
“What about the alt-left that came charging at the, as you say, the alt-right?” Trump asked reporters.
“I will tell you something. I watched those very closely, much more closely than you people watched it,” Trump said on Tuesday. “And you had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that. But I’ll say it right now. You had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit, and they were very, very violent.”
