Mueller, congressional panels butt heads: report

The Department of Justice’s special counsel investigation and the congressional probes into Russia’s election meddling are beginning to butt heads, according to CNN.

The news network in a report published Tuesday describes an anecdote in which the special counsel, which is lead by former FBI director Robert Mueller, tried to obtain a transcript from the Senate Intelligence Committee of an interview with Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman.

The counsel was blocked by Manafort’s lawyers and discussion of the issue is ongoing, the report said. 

{mosads}CNN reported “little, if any, communication” between the three congressional committees currently conducting probes into Russia’s 2016 election interference and possible collaboration between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

The special counsel, according to the network, has also largely left lawmakers “out of the loop.”

The report comes as the August congressional recess ends and both chambers prepare for upcoming testimony from multiple witnesses.
