Trump: Federal government is ready to help if Irma hits US

President Trump on Thursday urged anyone in the path of Hurricane Irma to “be safe” and said the federal government is “ready to help” should the storm hit the United States.

“Hurricane Irma is raging but we have great teams of talented and brave people already in place and ready to help. Be careful, be safe! #FEMA,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

{mosads}Trump on Tuesday approved a state of emergency declaration for Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands ahead of the potential impact of the storm. Meanwhile, Gov. Henry McMaster (R) on Wednesday declared a state of emergency in South Carolina.

Irma, a Category 5 hurricane, tore through the Caribbean this week and could make its way toward Florida this weekend, according to CNN.

The storm is raging fewer than two weeks after Hurricane Harvey first made landfall on the Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane, killing dozens and leaving widespread flooding and damage in its wake.
