Second arrest made in London subway bombing
A second man has been arrested after a subway blast last week at a train station in southwest London left 30 people injured, according to multiple reports.
The 21-year-old man was detained in a west London suburb on Saturday, London police said, Reuters reported.
Earlier Saturday, London’s Metropolitan Police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the blast.
{mosads}U.K. officials on Friday raised the national threat level to “critical” after the bomb partially exploded aboard a train during the morning rush hour, injuring 30.
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria said an affiliate unit had carried out the attack.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Sunday the threat level was lowered from “critical” to “severe,” Reuters reported.
“It is inevitable that so-called Islamic State, or Daesh, will reach in and try to claim responsibility. We have no evidence to suggest that yet,” Rudd told the BBC. “But as this unfolds, and as the police do their investigations, we will make sure that we find out exactly how he was radicalized, if we can.”
In an interview that aired Sunday, British Prime Minister Theresa May warned that people shouldn’t speculate about the ongoing investigation into the attack.
Her comment came after President Trump tweeted on Friday that a “loser terrorist” carried out the attack.
“These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard,” he added. “Must be proactive!”
