Spicer: ‘People are reading too much into’ Emmys appearance

Sean Spicer is suggesting his critics lighten up after facing pushback following the former White House press secretary’s surprise appearance at the Emmy Awards.

“People are reading too much into this,” Spicer told The Associated Press.

Spicer added that he was “surprised at how nice people were” to him when he went to Hollywood parties after the awards ceremony.

{mosads}“Even the people who I know don’t agree with me politically,” Spicer said.

Spicer made a surprise appearance Sunday night at the awards show, where he mocked an exchange he had with reporters earlier this year.

“This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period, both in-person and around the world,” Spicer said during the event.

Spicer faced some backlash for his appearance, with critics saying people shouldn’t make light of his behavior.

Spicer said in an interview with The New York Times that he regrets his fiery exchange with reporters in the White House briefing room following President Trump’s inauguration.

He also said he didn’t tell Trump or anyone else in the White House about his appearance at the Emmys, adding that it was an “attempt to poke a little fun at myself.”

Spicer resigned from his position as press secretary earlier this year, calling his time in the White House “the honor of a lifetime.”
