San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz on Sunday said she would meet with President Trump when he visits Puerto Rico on Tuesday if he asks for it.
“If he asks to meet with me, of course I will meet with him,” she said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“Anything that can be done and anyone that will listen.”
Cruz also said there is only one goal in the response to Hurricane Maria and it’s “saving lives.”
“Any dialogue that goes on just has to be able to produce results,” she said.
“And all I did last week, or even this week, was ask for help.”
Trump on Saturday lashed out at Cruz in a series of tweets after she criticized the storm response in an emotional plea for federal help.
“The mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump,” Trump tweeted.
“Such poor leadership ability by the mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help.”
Asked if Trump would meet with Cruz when he visits Puerto Rico on Tuesday, a White House official said officials were “not sure.”
The White House on Saturday said Cruz “might be too busy doing TV” to meet with Trump during his visit to the island on Tuesday.
