The girlfriend of the suspected gunman in Sunday night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas said she was not aware of any plans to commit violence.

In a statement read by her lawyer, Marilou Danley said 64 year-old Stephen Paddock said he purchased her a ticket to return to the Philippines so she could visit her family and later wired her funds to purchase a home, actions Danley said she thought meant Paddock was ending the relationship.

“It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone,” Danley ‘s attorney Matthew Lombard said, reading her statement.

{mosads}“I have not made a statement until now because I have been cooperating with the authorities and I have voluntarily flew back to America because I know that the FBI and Las Vegas Police Department wanted to talk to me and I wanted to talk to them.”

Danley said she is “devastated” by the mass shooting that killed at least 59 people and injured more than 500 others and will pray for the victims and those affected.

“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man. I loved him and hoped for a quiet future together with him,” her statement said.

“He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.”
