US travelers to Cuba report symptoms similar to diplomats

The State Department is warning U.S. citizens in Cuba to avoid two hotels in Havana after travelers reported similar symptoms to diplomats subjected to sonic-based attacks at the U.S. embassy.

CBS News and Reuters reported that State Department officials have confirmed that some American travelers have been affected.

The Trump administration is warning travelers to avoid the Hotel Nacional and Hotel Capri, both located in Havana, and is asking Americans who believe they were subjected to similar attacks to see a doctor.

“Affected individuals have exhibited a range of physical symptoms including ear complaints and hearing loss, dizziness, headache, fatigue, cognitive issues, and difficulty sleeping,” the U.S. Embassy in Cuba said in a message to U.S. citizens on Friday.

“If you believe you have suffered any of these symptoms following stays in Cuba, please consult a medical professional,” it added. “The U.S. government has imposed limitations on lodging at affected hotels.”
