Bergdahl pleads guilty to desertion, misbehavior before enemy
Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl on Monday pleaded guilty to misbehavior before the enemy and desertion, according to multiple reports.
{mosads}The Associated Press previously reported that Bergdahl would plead guilty to the charges.
Bergdahl had been facing desertion charges for walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009. He was captured by Taliban militants and was released in 2014 in exchange for five Taliban prisoners, dubbed “The Taliban Five.”
President Trump criticized Bergdahl multiple times during the campaign, calling him a traitor and suggesting he be executed.
According to CNN, Bergdahl told a judge on Monday that he walked away from his post on his own volition.
“I left my observation post on my own,” said Bergdahl, as reported by the network. “I understand leaving was against the law.”
