Suspect in NYC attack bragged about actions from hospital bed
The man suspected of carrying out the deadly terror attack Tuesday in New York City reportedly bragged about his actions from his hospital bed.
CBS News reported that the suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, said he was happy with what he did and would have kept going with the attack if he hadn’t rammed into a school bus.
The suspect reportedly made “no bones” about taking credit for the attack, sources told CBS News.
Eight people were killed and more were injured Tuesday when a driver drove his truck into a bicycle path in lower Manhattan.
The driver, identified as Saipov, then crashed into a school bus. He was shot by a police officer after getting out of the truck with a pellet gun and a paintball gun and shouting “Allahu akbar.”
During a news conference Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said this was “an act of terror.”
Trump on Tuesday and Wednesday tweeted about the attack, calling for resolve in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and harsher vetting of immigrants. Trump also sent tweets attacking Democrats.
“We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!” Trump tweeted Tuesday.
“I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!”
