Roger Stone calling for Trump to appoint a special prosecutor for Clinton
Longtime Trump ally Roger Stone is calling for President Trump to appoint a special prosecutor for an investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Stone wants Clinton to be investigated regarding the part she played in the sale of Uranium One, Vanity Fair reported.
“You would immediately have to inform Mueller, Comey, and [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein that they are under federal investigation,” Stone said.
“Trump can’t afford to fire Mueller politically. But this pushes him aside.”
Uranium One, which supplies a portion of the United States’ uranium stockpile, was purchased by a subsidiary of a Russian state-owned energy company in 2010. Mueller was FBI director at the time.
{mosads}The sale was subject to the approval of the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment, a multi-agency panel that includes the State Department, which was led by Clinton in 2010.
The Senate Judiciary Committee announced last month that it was opening an inquiry into the sale.
Stone’s comments come as former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was charged on multiple counts — including conspiracy against the United States — in the first indictments to come from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, including any possible ties between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.
Trump has repeatedly lashed out on Twitter since the indictments, denying collusion and calling for the focus to be shifted to “Democrat corruption.”
This past weekend, Trump tweeted that the Democrats are “using this terrible (and bad for our country) Witch Hunt for evil politics, but the R’s are now fighting back like never before.”
“There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out. DO SOMETHING!” he tweeted.
