Comey trolls Trump with quote on ‘immorality’ after Trump appears to back Roy Moore

Former FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday tweeted a quote about “immorality” after President Trump appeared to throw his support behind GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore.

“‘The essence of immorality is the tendency to make an exception of myself.’ Jane Addams (1860-1935)” Comey tweeted.

Trump on Tuesday appeared to throw his support behind Moore despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

“We don’t need a liberal person in there, a Democrat,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The president slammed the record of Moore’s Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, saying “it’s terrible on crime, it’s terrible on the border, it’s terrible on the military.”

Trump declined to say whether he believes the accusations against Moore but stressed that the former judge has denied them.

“He denies it. He totally denies it,” Trump said, noting the alleged incidents took place about 40 years ago. “Roy Moore denies it — that’s all I can say.”

Moore has been embroiled in scandal since The Washington Post reported that he initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. Several other women have come forward to accuse Moore of inappropriate sexual advances that happened when they were teenagers.

Comey in recent weeks has tweeted out quotes which appear to be directed at the president.

Last week, Comey tweeted out a quote about leaders taking credit and blame after Trump lashed out at LaVar Ball for not giving him enough credit for the release of the three UCLA basketball players — including Ball’s son — who were detained in China.
