Jelly Belly inventor launches cannabis-based candy company

The inventor of Jelly Belly, the jelly bean company, is launching a new venture to sells candies infused with cannabidiol, or CBD, the nonpsychoactive component of marijuana.

David Klein, who created the Jelly Belly jelly bean in 1976, is selling the candies, which come in 38 flavors, on the website Spectrum Confections.

{mosads}Each jelly bean contains 10 milligrams of CBD.

“The jelly bean is perfect for the proper dosage” of CBD, Klein told Cannabis Aficionado.

The company’s inventory was sold out as of Monday.

CBD oil doesn’t give users a high. It has been legal since the passage of the farm bill in December but only when it is extracted from hemp.

When extracted from other cannabis plants that are higher in tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD is illegal on the federal level but may be legal under certain state laws.
