Majority of voters want Mueller to testify before Congress: poll

A majority of voters say special counsel Robert Mueller should testify before Congress about his Russia investigation report, a new poll finds.

Fifty-six percent of respondents in a Morning Consult/Politico survey released Wednesday said Mueller should testify, while only 19 percent said he shouldn’t.

{mosads}Republican respondents were almost evenly split: 37 percent agreed Mueller should appear before Congress, while 36 percent disagreed. Twenty-seven percent said they didn’t know or didn’t have an opinion.

Seventy-nine percent of Democrats and 51 percent of independents said Mueller should testify.

Nearly a month after Mueller’s team released its 448-page report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, Democratic lawmakers are pushing for the special counsel to appear before the House Judiciary Committee for testimony before June.

President Trump, who tweeted that Mueller “should not” appear before Congress, later said he would let Attorney General William Barr decide. Barr has said he has “no objection to Bob Mueller personally testifying.”

The poll was conducted May 10-12 among 1,995 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
