Patagonia says to shut stores for a few hours during Global Climate Strike

Popular clothing brand Patagonia said it would support the Global Climate Strike planned for Friday and would close down its offices and stores for a few hours during the strike.

Additionally, Patagonia has committed to “a significant media buy” that will provide information on a platform facilitating text messages to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

{mosads}The company will also have “a visible presence” along the strike routes in Washington, D.C., New York and Denver.

“In a time when our government leadership on climate is non-existent, responsible businesses are showing-up,” Patagonia said in a statement, touting its actions.

Patagonia’s support of the youth-driven strike follows New York City mayor and presidential candidate Bill de Blasio excusing the city’s 1.1 million students from class Friday, allowing them to attend the strike without penalty.

The strike will take place three days before the United Nations hosts the Climate Action Summit, where countries hope to increase the restrictions on greenhouse gasses that began with the Paris climate agreement in 2015.

Another worldwide strike is scheduled for Sept. 27.
