Engineer charged in alleged scheme to fool regulators about Fiat Chrysler engine pollution
A former engineer for Fiat Chrysler is accused of manipulating emissions during government tests to make it appear the vehicles were producing less pollution than they were, according to The Associated Press.
Emanuele Palma was charged with conspiracy and fraud in connection to the alleged scheme to fool regulators. He is due in Detroit federal court Tuesday.
{mosads}A manager at a Fiat Chrysler engine company until June 2016, Palma misled regulators about engine emissions from more than 100,000 diesel vehicles, according to investigators.
Earlier in the year, Fiat Chrysler paid a $650 million settled with California and federal regulators for Jeep Grand Cherokees and Ram 1500 trucks with diesel engines that were manufactured from 2014 to 2016.
The automaker says it is fully cooperating with federal authorities.
