Pot use at all-time high in March: survey

Pot consumption in March hit a record high as millions of Americans hunkered down at home due to coronavirus social distancing.

A survey of U.S. consumers conducted last month by Cowen & Co. found that a record 33 percent of respondents said they had tried cannabis at least once in their life, according to Bloomberg News.

The survey also found that 12.8 percent of respondents said they had used marijuana in the past month, up from the 12.5 percent average for 2019.

Pot sales also rose in mid-March.

Cowen, citing figures from cannabis analytics firm Headset Inc., said weekly sales growth peaked at 64 percent for the week of March 16, the sharpest rate increase since the beginning of 2019.

The survey also found that the percentage of consumers using cannabis working full-time dropped to 42.4 percent in March from the previous month, a bigger decline than the general population.
