DOJ watchdog finds former prosecutor arrested for drunk driving threatened retaliation
A federal prosecutor was arrested for driving under the influence and used homophobic slurs and other epithets against law enforcement, according to a Justice Department (DOJ) inspector general report obtained by BuzzFeed News.
The report did not name the federal prosecutor or what office he worked out of, though it did indicate the investigation was carried out by the DOJ’s Dallas field office. It said that the prosecutor, who resigned during the investigation, called law enforcement officers anti-gay and anti-woman slurs and used other insults like “dumb rookie” and “retarded.”
Once he arrived in jail, other witnesses said that the man threatened to “sue his ass” and told them “I will prosecute every single one of you.” The man asked jail staff “Do you know who the fuck I am?” and “You don’t know who you are messing with. I’m going to have all of your jobs.”
According to the report the man was worried he would face violence if he was taken to jail because he is a prosecutor.
He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. The report redacted his sentence but did indicate that the sentence was deferred while he was under court supervision and required that he have a breath test machine attached to his car.
The DOJ did not immediately respond to an inquiry from The Hill.
