Clinton celebrates Biden-Harris victory: ‘The voters have spoken’

Hillary Clinton took to Twitter to celebrate after Democratic nominee Joe Biden was projected to win the race for the White House against President Trump, calling Biden and vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) a “history-making ticket” and “a repudiation” of the president.

“The voters have spoken, and they have chosen @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris to be our next president and vice president,” Clinton tweeted Saturday after The Associated Press, CNN, ABC, NBC and other news outlets called the race for Biden.

“It’s a history-making ticket, a repudiation of Trump, and a new page for America. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Onward, together,” Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, continued, sharing an illustration of the candidates.

Biden on Saturday released a statement after the race was called by news outlets, sharing, “I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris.”

“In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America,” he said, adding that “With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation.”

Trump on Saturday immediately signaled that he would not accept Biden being projected as the winner, promising to fight the results in court.

“The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor,” Trump, who was at his golf club in Northern Virginia, said in a prepared statement.

Ballot counting is still ongoing in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia. Biden is leading in all four of the states as of Saturday.
