Two passengers trigger slide to exit moving plane with service dog

Two passengers exited a taxiing plane preparing to depart New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Monday by opening a cabin door, turning on the emergency slide and sliding away along with their service dog.

The two passengers, who have not been named, were placed in custody and all remaining passengers on the Delta flight set for Atlanta later exited the plane normally after it was forced to return to the gate, according to CNN.

The charges the couple faces are unknown and it is unclear at this time if they will be banned from future travel with the airline, according to The New York Times.

“Maintenance technicians have evaluated the aircraft and is scheduled to return to service,” Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant told CNN.

The man and woman who exited the plane were reportedly never able to settle into their seats before the plane began to move. Another passenger on the flight said that he saw the couple move seats multiple times before the man finally stood up to exit the flight stating that he had post-traumatic stress disorder, CNN reported.

“If I sit down, I’ll freak out,” the man said, according to the other passenger, the Times reported.

“This doesn’t happen every day at the airport,” Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokeswoman Lenis Valens told the Times.
