Nurse who gave Biden his COVID-19 vaccine: ‘This vaccine is safe’
The nurse practitioner who administered the coronavirus vaccine to President-elect Joe Biden said Tuesday that the vaccine is safe.
Tabe Mase, a nurse practitioner at ChristianaCare hospital in Delaware, appeared on CNN’s morning show “New Day” on to talk about her experience giving the Pfizer and BioNtech shot to Biden and front-line workers.
“I just want to say that this vaccine is safe. Our president-elect got the vaccine, I got the vaccine myself and we have been vaccinating our front-line workers and we intend to continue,” Mase said.

“So I’m just looking forward to people stepping forward and rolling up their sleeve and getting the vaccine. It is safe,” she continued.
Biden and his wife Jill Biden both received their first dose of the vaccine Monday at Christiana Hospital. Biden noted that he wanted to get vaccinated publicly to enforce the idea to the American people that the vaccine is safe.
“I am doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it’s available to take the vaccine,” he said Monday. “There’s nothing to worry about.”
Mase said she was humbled by the president-elect’s decision to choose her organization to receive the vaccine. She also expressed her optimism for the future now that the vaccine is available to protect communities from COVID-19.
“For me, when we heard that the vaccine had been approved and it got the emergency use authorization and then we got it at ChristianaCare, it was just, it was exciting,” Mase said. “I just couldn’t wait because it means we have another tool in our tool box — masking, hand-washing, social distancing. So I am looking forward to brighter days.”
