George W. Bush to attend Biden inauguration

Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush plan to attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, a spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

Freddy Ford, the spokesperson for the Bushes, tweeted that the pair “look forward to returning to the Capitol for the swearing in of President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

“I believe this will be the eighth Inauguration they’ve had the privilege of attending – President Trump’s being the most recent- and witnessing the peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our democracy that never gets old,” Ford added.

The couple previously went to both of former President Obama’s inaugurations, in 2009 and 2013, as well as Trump’s in 2017.

Former President Carter, who is 96 years old, will not be attending Biden’s inauguration.

It is still unclear if Trump will attend the Jan. 20 event. He has railed against the November elections, leveling evidence-challenged claims that widespread voter fraud and irregularities cost him reelection.

The Bushes have already congratulated Biden on his victory.
