Pelosi and Schumer call on Trump to demand all protesters leave Capitol
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) called on President Trump to demand protesters leave the U.S. Capitol as violence continued to swarm out of control Wednesday.
The call comes as multiple lawmakers and supporters of the president urged Trump to outright order the rioters to leave the Capitol building. Shortly after the Democratic leaders released the statement, Trump tweeted out his own video in which he called on the mob who stormed the Capitol to “go home now.”
“We are calling on President Trump to demand that all protestors leave the U.S. Capitol and Capitol grounds immediately,” the Democratic leaders wrote in a joint statement.

Rioters stormed the Capitol Building shortly after 2 p.m. as Congress was certifying the Electoral College votes that will certify President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the November election. Demonstrators violently clashed with police and at least one has been reported shot as lawmakers, members of the press and Capitol staff were forced to shelter in place.
Pelosi’s office was also broken into and vandalized at one point.
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) imposed a 6 p.m. curfew on the city, and the National Guard has been activated to assist law enforcement.
As the violence raged on, President Trump urged supporters to “stay peaceful.”
“Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!” Trump tweeted.
Trump later tweeted: “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”
