‘QAnon shaman’ refusing to eat after arrest stemming from Capitol rioting

The man who wore horned, fur-covered headgear and red, white and blue face paint as he and other supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol last week is refusing to eat while in custody in Arizona, his mother said.

Jacob Anthony Chansley, who also goes by the name Jake Angeli and is known among online conspiracy theorists and far-right internet groups as the “QAnon Shaman,” appeared in federal court for the first time in Phoenix this week.

Chansley turned himself in over the weekend and told authorities he traveled to Washington, D.C., because Trump called on “patriots” to attend the demonstrations.

Chansley is reportedly refusing to eat food authorities are providing him while in custody because it is not organic.

“He gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food — literally will get physically sick,” his mother, Martha Chansley, told local television station ABC15 on Monday.

The station reported that a public defender told Judge Deborah Fine that Jacob Chansley had been on a restrictive diet before being taken into custody and had not eaten recently.

Fine reportedly ordered Chansley’s attorney to work with the U.S. Marshal’s Office to address the dietary concerns.

Jacob Chansley is facing several charges in connection with last Wednesday’s rioting, including knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the outlet noted.

He told a U.S. correspondent for The Globe and Mail last week that police let him into the Capitol.

“After a while, he said police politely asked him to leave and let him go without arrest,” journalist Adrian Morrow reported.

Jacob Chansley and dozens of other supporters of Trump breached the Capitol Building as a joint session of Congress met to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.

Before the Capitol was breached, Trump encouraged a crowd of supporters less than a mile away to march on Congress and display “strength” in supporting him.
