Oklahoma man who videotaped himself with his feet on desk in Pelosi’s office during Capitol riot released on bond
An Oklahoma man who was charged by the Justice Department earlier this month over a Snapchat video purportedly showing him sitting at Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) desk with his feet up was released Monday on $10,000 bond.
Andrew Craig Ericson, 23, was released Monday after spending the weekend in jail, The Oklahoman reported. He faces three counts in Washington, D.C. federal court including unlawful entry into a restricted building, violent entry, and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Ericson was one of the first people charged over the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, that resulted in five deaths, including that of a Capitol Police officer. The riot, which occurred during Congress’s joint session to certify the 2020 election results, has been deemed an insurrection. It also led to the second impeachment of former President Trump for inciting the violence in part due to his refusal to accept the election results.
An FBI affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman indicated that Ericson was identified after posting roughly a dozen photos and videos of himself inside the Capitol to his personal Snapchat account. A former high school acquaintance saw the images and tipped off agents, according to the newspaper.
“My Office, along with our law enforcement partners at all levels, have been expeditiously working and leveraging every resource to identify, arrest, and begin prosecuting these individuals who took part in the brazen criminal acts at the U.S. Capitol,” Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. Attorney for D.C., said in a statement earlier in January announcing the charges against Ericson and others.
“We are resolute in our commitment to holding accountable anyone responsible for these disgraceful criminal acts, and to anyone who might be considering engaging in or inciting violence in the coming weeks – know this: you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he added.
