Capitol Police beefing up security this week amid ‘concerning’ intelligence

Capitol Police said on Tuesday that they will be increasing security around the Capitol this week due to “concerning information and intelligence” they have received.

“Based on the intelligence we have, the Department has taken immediate steps to enhance our security posture and staffing for a number of days, to include March 4th,” the statement reads.

There have been concerns surrounding March 4 for weeks due to QAnon conspiracy theories that falsely say former President Trump will be inaugurated on that day.

Although acting Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett said there is no indication that violent groups are coming to Washington, D.C., Capitol Police are upping security as a precautionary measure.

The Capitol will have extra police personnel in the area along with the National Guard members and fencing that have protected the Capitol since the riot on Jan. 6.

“The Department is aware of concerning information and intelligence pertaining to March 4th and continues to work with all of our law enforcement partners,” their statement says.

QAnon conspiracy theorists believe that Trump will be inaugurated that day because that was the day presidential inaugurations took place until 1933.

Capitol police will also have extra personnel at three local airports and Union stations to ensure members of Congress can travel safely.

“The Department has communicated our enhanced posture as well as the available intelligence for the entire workforce,” the statement concluded.
