Trump rips raid on ‘great patriot’ Rudy Giuliani’s apartment as ‘very unfair’
Former President Trump slammed the raid by federal agents on Rudy Giuliani’s apartment, saying in an interview early Thursday that it was “very unfair.”
“Rudy Giuliani is a great patriot. He just loves this country, and they raid his apartment,” Trump told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria,” referring to his former personal attorney.
“It’s like so unfair and … it’s like a double standard like I don’t think anybody’s ever seen before,” he continued. “It’s very, very unfair. Rudy is a patriot who loves this country.”
Trump’s comments come a day after federal prosecutors searched Giuliani’s apartment and law office in New York City and seized electronic devices.
The development comes as authorities investigate whether the former New York mayor illegally lobbied the Trump administration on behalf of Ukrainian oligarchs.
“I don’t know what they’re looking for or what they’re doing,” the former president said early Thursday. “They say it had to do with filings of various papers and lobbying files. Well, did Hunter [Biden] file? Did [President] Biden file? Because they did a lot of work with other countries. To the best of everyone’s knowledge, they didn’t file.”
“It’s a very, very unfair situation,” he said. “It is so terrible when you see the things going on in our country with the corruption and the problems and then they go after Rudy Giuliani. It’s very said, actually.”
Trump lamented what he said was a double standard in the treatment of former officials in his administration compared to Democratic figures.
The former president focused on allegations that former Secretary of State John Kerry discussed Israeli military operations with Iran’s foreign minister during his time in the Obama administration.
“It is incredible because you bring up John Kerry and the horrible thing that he did and was doing for a period of time,” Trump said.
Kerry has denied the allegations, saying they are “unequivocally false.”
“This never happened — either when I was Secretary of State or since,” Kerry tweeted on Monday.
