Sunday shows: Cheney to fire away
Former Vice President Dick Cheney will venture back into the spotlight this weekend, making an appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”
Cheney has carefully planned his public statements and media venues since leaving office, blasting President Barack Obama on a number of national security issues.
{mosads}Look for the former Veep to weigh in on the Obama administration’s decisions to grant civilian trials to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the Christmas Day bomber.
In other VP news, Joe Biden will appear on both “Meet the Press” and “Face the Nation.” The vice president is in Vancouver for the Winter Olympics, and will likely answer a few obligatory questions on the Games before moving on to weightier topics.
National Security Adviser Jim Jones will appear on both CNN’s “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday,” where he’ll be queried about terrorist trials and the administration’s dual wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will appear either with or just after Jones on “Fox News Sunday.” Graham who was a thorn in the side of the Bush administration on interrogation and detainment policy and has also been critical of Obama’s decision to try terrorists in civilian courts.
Giving the GOP’s weekly address Saturday morning, Graham repeated his call for the Obama
administration to try suspected terrorists in military tribunals.
Finally, Sens. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) will follow Cheney on “This Week.” Expect jobs legislation, the GOP’s use of the filibuster, and the tenuous fate of healthcare reform to dominate their disucssion.
