Jennings files brief

Christine Jennings, the 2006 Democratic nominee for Florida’s 13th congressional district, filed a brief in a Florida court Tuesday, making a case for the court to grant outside experts access to review Sarasota County’s electronic voting system.

Stating that parties on both sides agree that an abnormally high undercount skewed the results and that statistics can never determine if a machine malfunction contributed to the undervote, the Democrat who narrowly lost to now-Rep. Vern Buchanan (R) asked for access to the machines’ hardware, software and source code.

Jennings also detailed previous cases in which secret protections have not prevented plaintiffs from getting access to evidence, especially when the plaintiffs are not business competitors.
