Kerry to send millions of anti-war e-mails
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) plans to e-mail 3 million supporters from his 2004 presidential campaign today in an effort to advance legislation he introduced this week that would set a deadline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Kerry’s massive database of activists, donors and volunteers would have been one of his biggest assets had he decided to run for president in 2008
A draft of his e-mail to supporters shows that Kerry intends to borrow from his presidential campaign playbook to wage legislative battles in Congress.
In the missive, Kerry asks potential voters to “co-sign” his legislation over the Web.
Kerry’s legislation would set benchmarks for the Iraqi government, launch a diplomatic initiative to end the war and shift the role of U.S. forces to focus more on counterterrorism operations and training Iraqi security forces.
