Sunday shows: Oil spill fallout

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, immigration, and political turmoil
in Florida will lead this Sunday’s morning news programs.

Administration
officials and Gulf state lawmakers will make the rounds to discuss
ongoing efforts to clean up an oil spill that has begun to hit
shorelines in a number of states.

{mosads}Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will appear on ABC,
NBC and Fox to discuss the efforts. Secretary of the Interior Ken
Salazar will also appear on CNN, Fox and ABC to discuss cleanup efforts
and the extent to which the Obama administration’s plans to expand
offshore oil and gas exploration might be curtailed by the incident.

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Rep.
Charlie Melancon (D-La.), a candidate for Senate, will likely discuss
how the spill is affecting their home states.

Napolitano and
other Sunday guests will also face questions on immigration reform as
the debate in Congress heated up this past week.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth
(R-Ariz.), who’s running in the GOP primary to challenge Sen. John
McCain (R-Ariz.), will square off on “Face the Nation” over immigration, specifically
Arizona’s tough, new immigration law that compels law enforcement
officials to confront individuals whom they suspect of being in the
U.S. illegally.

That issue is also likely to come up during the roundtable portion
of “Meet the Press” on NBC, where House Republican Conference Chairman
Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar
Alexander (R-Tenn.) will sit down with New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

Florida’s shaken-up Senate race will also be on the agenda.

The
state’s governor, Charlie Crist, will appear on “Meet the Press” and
CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss his decision to leave the GOP to
wage an independent bid for Senate. Former state House Speaker Marco
Rubio, the presumptive Republican candidate in the race, will appear on
“Fox News Sunday” to discuss the race.

Also on the agenda will be the aftermath of Saturday evening’s
White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. MSNBC will broadcast a
special edition of “Morning Joe” anchored from the White House on
Sunday morning.
