Sunday shows: Holder hits airwaves
Attorney General Eric Holder will make his morning talk show debut on Sunday when he sits down for two network interviews.
Both
NBC’s “Meet the Press” and ABC’s “This Week” will feature interviews
with Holder, his first on the talk show circuit. Holder will likely
face questions over the Obama administration’s handling of terrorist
suspects in the past week and earlier this year, which Republicans have
scrutinized.
{mosads}ABC will also feature former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani,
who may voice criticism of the administration’s handling of the
attempted attack.
The GOP has hit Holder for having read Miranda
rights to suspects in attempted terror attacks, and the shows will
provide the attorney general a venue to respond to critics after in the
past week, according to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Holder
got “his mojo back.”
“Fox News Sunday” will also focus on the
administration’s response to the attempted car bombing of Times Square
last weekend. A bipartisan pair of lawmakers, Sen. Joe Lieberman
(I-Conn.) and Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), who have both criticized the
White House’s handling of Faisal Shahzad, the suspect arrested in the
attempted attack, will appear, as will John Brennan, the deputy national security adviser who helped lead the administration’s response.
Brennan will also appear on CNN’s “State of the Union,” where he’ll
share the stage with a couple of senators to discuss offshore oil
drilling and Wall Street reform.
Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.)
will be on CNN to talk about the effect of the oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico, which has affected the coast in his state of Florida. Nelson
has urged the Obama administration to halt new offshore drilling in the
wake of the ecological disaster.
Also on CNN will be Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), the ranking
member of the Senate Banking Committee, to discuss the Senate’s ongoing
effort to overhaul the nation’s financial regulations. As the Senate
prepares to enter its second week of debating and amending Democrats’
Wall Street reform bill, Shelby is expected to make the GOP case
against the bill in its current form, a case he’ll also make during an
appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
