Dem senator: Clinton had ‘a lot of biases against her’

Retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) says there were “biases” against Hillary Clinton that contributed to her defeat in the presidential election.

“I think there were a lot of biases against her,” she told CNN’s Dana Bash during an interview on “New Day” aired Wednesday.

“You know what we find when you break the glass ceiling, you end up living in a glass office where everything you do is scrutinized,” Mikulski added of Clinton, who was the first woman nominated for president by a major political party.

{mosads}Mikulski said she was shocked on election night when the returns showed Donald Trump had defeated Clinton.

Asked where Clinton’s defeat ranked on a scale of 1 to 10, she said, “A 52.”

“I couldn’t believe election night as I watched the returns. And it was enormously disappointing.”

Mikulski declined to say whether voters were not ready for a woman in the Oval Office.

“I’ll let the history books analyze that.” 

The Maryland senator is the longest-serving woman in Congress. Another Democrat, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), will replace her in the Senate next year.
