Schumer: Trump may be using populism to cover up hard right agenda

Sen. Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Sunday that he fears President Donald Trump is using a populist tone to mask a “hard right agenda.”

“It was populist, but I am worried he’s using populist rhetoric to cover up a hard right agenda,” Schumer told CNN’s “State of the Union,” referencing Trump’s inauguration address.

Schumer pointed to several of Trump’s Cabinet picks, including Secretary of Health and Human Services nominee Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.); Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), Trump’s choice for the Office of Management and Budget; school choice advocate Betsy DeVos for secretary of Education; and restaurant chain CEO Tom Puzder for secretary of Labor.
