Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) says he’s still waiting for President Trump to reach out to Democrats.
“He has not reached out to us once,” Schumer said Wednesday on CNN’s “New Day.”
“He doesn’t have a plan that seems to move working America forward. We’re waiting.”
{mosads}Schumer cited ObamaCare as an example, insisting Democrats are willing to make fixes to the law but that Trump and the GOP won’t consider anything but a full repeal.
“Here’s what we’ve said, over and over again,” he said. “If you say you’ll back off repeal, we’ll work with you to make ACA, the Affordable Care Act, better.”
Trump delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, striking an optimistic tone as he tried settling concerns over his administration’s first 40 days.
“The time for trivial fights is over,” he said, gesturing to Democratic lawmakers. “The time for small thinking is behind us.”
Trump reiterated his commitment to repealing and replacing ObamaCare amid uncertainty over what plan would replace it.
“The way to make health insurance available to everyone is to lower the cost of health insurance, and that is what we will do. ObamaCare is collapsing, and we must act decisively to protect all Americans.”
