Lee: Healthcare ‘absolutely not’ behind us

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) on Sunday said healthcare reform is “absolutely not” behind Republicans, despite the stunning defeat last week of the GOP plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

“Absolutely not” he said when asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if healthcare is behind Republicans following the legislation’s failure.

President Trump on Friday told a Washington Post reporter that he would move on from healthcare and that efforts to repeal and replace ObamaCare will not come up again soon.

{mosads}”He’s going to let things be on healthcare. The bill is not going to come again, at least in the near future,” reporter Bob Costa reiterated on MSNBC.

Republican lawmakers, and Trump, made repealing and replacing ObamaCare a core campaign promise both in 2016 and several prior elections.

Lee on Sunday argued that the GOP proposals did not pass because they did not bring down the cost of healthcare for Americans.

“This bill didn’t pass because it didn’t deal with the most fundamental flaw in ObamaCare,” Lee said, referencing costs.
