GOP Rep. Mo Brooks ‘seriously’ considering Ala. Senate run
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) is considering a bid against a fellow party member for an Alabama senate seat.
“We are very much exploring it as a possibility,” Brooks told the Montgomery Advertiser. “I’m doing my due diligence.”
Brooks said he is “seriously” thinking about launching a bid for for the seat held by Sen. Luther Strange (R), who was appointed to the position by former Gov. Robert Bentley (R).
{mosads}Strange was appointed to replace Jeff Sessions after Sessions was tapped by President Trump to be attorney general.
The special election for Strange’s seat will be held Dec. 12, with the primaries held Aug. 15.
Brooks said he will likely be a “firm decision” around May 15, shortly before the deadline to file.
“The question quite frankly is whether I want to sacrifice time from my family, my wife, my four kids, my three kids-in-law, and my eight wonderful grandchildren,” Brooks said. “That’s a big factor.”
Last month, suspended Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore (R) announced his plans to run for Senate.
“We can make America great again, we’ve got to make America good again,” Moore said when announcing his bid. He was suspended after encouraging lower-court judges to ignore a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.
