Warren calls for Sessions to be fired

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to be fired, comments that come on the eve of his testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“He needs to be fired. He needs to be taken out of that job,” Warren told “The Axe Files,” a joint podcast between CNN and the University of Chicago Institute of Politics that is hosted by Democratic strategist David Axelrod.

Warren cited Sessions’s acknowledgment earlier this year that he had two meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak that he failed to disclose when testifying under oath.

“If you’re not going to be honest during your confirmation hearing, then you ought to be gone,” Warren said.

Sessions is slated to testify Tuesday in an open hearing in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee to address former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony last week about his interactions with President Trump and the Russia probe.

Comey in the testimony said he was aware of details that made Sessions’s involvement in the FBI’s Russia investigation “problematic.”

Sessions in March recused himself from the Russia investigation, citing his involvement with Trump’s presidential campaign.

Senators are likely to ask him during his testimony Tuesday about a third possible meeting with Kislyak last year.
