Sasse: Cancel August work period if GOP can’t replace ObamaCare

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) on Sunday said Congress should cancel the August state work period to focus on healthcare if Republicans cannot successfully repeal and replace ObamaCare at the same time.

“It needs to be a good replace,” Sasse told CNN’s “State of the Union,” detailing his proposal to repeal ObamaCare with a delayed implementation date so lawmakers can work on a plan to replace it.

“If we can’t though, then there’s no reason to walk away. We should do repeal, with a delay.”

{mosads}Sasse said if that happens, lawmakers should remain in Washington, D.C. in August to work on repeal plans in “full public view.”

“I’d like to say let’s do the repeal and then let’s try to get 60 out of 100 senators,” Sasse added.

Sasse argued that Republicans need to stop pretending that healthcare worked prior to ObamaCare and that Democrats need to stop pretending ObamaCare is working.
