Hatch: Health a key factor in reelection bid

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) says his health is a main factor in his decision on whether to run for reelection.

Hatch, 83, referred to himself as “a tough old bird” in an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune and said he is still active.

“I’ve always been very active. I feel good. I work hard,” Hatch said.

{mosads}“And yeah, I feel it a lot more. I’m older but you know, nothing stops me. I keep going. I get a lot done here. I don’t think anybody doubts that.”

Hatch told the Tribune he normally starts his day early and works out on a stationary bike before the work day.

He has had “routine cataract and glaucoma surgery” and he wears a hearing aid in one of his ears, according to the newspaper.

But a doctor’s report said Hatch is in “overall good health and active in your professional work, and recreational lifestyle with minimal limitation,” the Tribune reported.

Hatch is expected to decide this fall whether he’ll launch another bid.
