Democrat: Corker was ‘extremely patient’ with Trump

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) is defending his Republican colleague Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) following his feud with President Trump, saying Corker was “extremely patient” with the president.

“I thought he was extremely patient with President Trump, knowing how quickly he can respond to absurdities,” Cardin told The New York Times in a report published Saturday.

{mosads}Cardin, who serves as Corker’s Democratic counterpart on the Foreign Relations Committee, is a known friend of the retiring GOP senator.

The public feud between Trump and Corker became heated earlier this month when the two prominent politicians took to Twitter to exchange insults.

Trump first took aim at Corker, claiming he refused to back the Tennessee senator, who Trump said was seeking a presidential endorsement in the upcoming 2018 midterms.

Corker’s chief of staff denied the claim, saying the president had actually encouraged the GOP lawmaker to run again and urged him not to retire, a decision Corker announced last month.

Corker then took aim at the commander in chief in a tweet by calling the White House “an adult day care center.”

The Tennessee Republican also told The New York Times in an interview last week that Trump could lead the country on the path toward “World War III” and that he’s treating the presidency like “a reality show.”
