Dem senator: Manafort indictment ‘could just be the beginning’

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Monday the surrender of President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort could just be the start in the ongoing probe into ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

“The issue is even if he is charged with something unrelated to Russia, it could just be the beginning,” she said during an interview on “CBS This Morning.”

Klobuchar told the program that she thinks of the investigation into Russian election interference as a “truth hunt and not a witch hunt” — the term President Trump often uses to refer to the probe.

“We owe it to our democracy,” she told “CBS This Morning.”

“What I want to know is how far this went, who was involved, and who gave the orders,” she said about what she hopes to learn from the federal probe.

Manafort on Monday turned himself in to the FBI after being indicted on 12 counts including conspiracy against the United States.

Other counts in the indictment include conspiracy to launder money, false statements and seven counts of failing to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.
