Poll: Sanders defends title as ‘most popular’ senator

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) continues to hold the title as the nation’s most popular senator, according to the latest Morning Consult poll.

Sanders’s 71 percent approval rating among home state voters is the highest out of any senator, but slightly less than his 75 percent approval rating in July’s poll.

According to the survey, approval ratings for nearly all senators have gone down during the third quarter, when Republicans failed to repeal ObamaCare.

The least popular senator was Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), with 55 percent disapproval, which was worse than in July, when he topped the least popular ranking with 48 percent disapproval. Only 33 percent of Kentuckians polled said they approved of the job McConnell was doing.

Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) shot up to second on the “least popular” list, coming in behind McConnell with 48 percent disapproval. Flake recently announced that he would not run for reelection, with an impassioned speech slamming President Trump.

The poll was compiled from 255,120 registered voters in 50 states from July 1 to Sept. 30.
